What You Need to Know Before You Start
To enroll in the MSF Basic Rider Course at Elite Motorcycle Training, you don't need a motorcycle, a helmet, or a permit. We provide everything you need to get started:
No permit required: You can begin the course without obtaining a motorcycle permit.
We provide the motorcycle: You don't need your bike—just use one of ours.
You must complete an online course in addition to on-site training. While we strongly recommend completing the online portion before attending, we accept it up to 30 days after you finish on-site training. If you're under 18, a parent must sign all necessary documents on-site or provide notarized originals with their driver's license for class.
What You'll Gain From the Motorcycle Training Course
Completing our MSF Basic Rider Course means you won't have to take any tests at the MVC—no written test, no riding test. Once you pass our course:
Immediate Endorsement: Your NJ motorcycle endorsement will be added to your existing driver's license immediately, with no waiting period.
No Restrictions: Your endorsement will be unrestricted, allowing you to ride any two- or three-wheeled motorcycle legally.
Insurance Discount: You can usually receive a discount on your motorcycle insurance.
If you still need an NJ driver's license, you have up to six months after completing the course to get one and simply add your motorcycle endorsement. Your motorcycle endorsement will have the same conditions if you have a conditional driver's license.
Course Requirements and Preparation

When you come to class, make sure to bring the following:
Identification: A valid driver's license or photo ID (no permit required).
Safety Gear: Full-fingered gloves, sturdy over-the-ankle boots (no canvas), long pants without holes or tears, a helmet, and a long-sleeve shirt or jacket.
Eye Protection: Eyeglasses, sunglasses, safety glasses, or a helmet shield.
Additional Gear: Rain gear (if needed) and any extra clothes for changing weather conditions.
Food and Drinks: Bring your lunch, snacks, and drinks—there's no place to purchase food on-site.
